Troop 21’s Annual Joshua Tree Trip – 2022

What a beautiful weekend for T21’s annual trip to Joshua Tree National Park. Scouts and their families had a great time bouldering, hiking, rock climbing, and roasting marshmallows on a roaring campfire.

Helping the Salvation Army

Troop 21 helped set up the Toy Shop at the Salvations Army. This is the third year the Troop has participating in making the holidays a little better for local families.

Holiday Party

Troop 21 celebrated the holidays with a Court of Honor, music and dinner. Congratulations to all the Scouts who earned ranks and merit badges.

Shady Cove

On October 8th Troop 21 headed for Lake Arrowhead and enjoyed two nights of camping in Shady Cove. After a year and a half with no camping we were all thrilled to be with our friends, in tents, and enjoying camping outdoors together. We hiked to the fire tower and had incredible view, cooked over camp stoves, and cooked on a trail hike. It was a beautiful and cold weekend to be in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Dutch oven night

Peach cobbler was delicious cooked in our dutch ovens. This is a great method for cooking at campouts or outside at scout meetings.

Halloween!

Thank you to our SPL Oliver Cowing for planning a fun halloween night filled with fun games and great prizes. We enjoyed a movie and popcorn along with the creative costumes. Thanks to Mr. Johnson for meeting with scouts to talk about Eagle requirements.

Fall court of honor

Troop 21 Scouts were busy this summer and we celebrated their achievements at the recent Court of Honor. The troop awarded more than 150 merit badges and eight rank advancements. They also honored those Scouts who recently earned their Eagle rank: Tex Bonham, Lucas Errico and Jacob Williams.

Welcome Back!

Troop 21 met at their new home at the Pasadena Salvation Army. We are happy to call them our new charter organization. Want to see what we were up to this summer? Watch the video here.

Lucas Errico is an Eagle!

Lucas Errico completed his Board of Review on August 31, 2021 to become T21’s latest Eagle Scout. Lucas’ project involved designing and installing a sensory garden for Willard Elementary School in Pasadena, which is where he began his scouting journey in Cub Scout Pack 157 more than 10 years ago. Congratulations, Lucas!

Christian Ortega, T21’s Newest Eagle

On August 24, 2021, Christian Ortega completed his Board of Review to become the troop’s newest Eagle Scout. Christian served as T21’s Senior Patrol Leader and for his Eagle service project he led a collection of PPE for Huntington Hospital. Congratulations, Chris. Job well done.

Philmont Scout Ranch Adventure

A crew of nine T21 scouts and our two Scoutmasters completed an epic trek at BSA’s most famous high-adventure base, Philmont Scout Ranch. The crew logged almost 60 miles of hiking in the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico while taking part in activities like horseback riding, rock climbing and rappelling, spar-pole climbing, roping, land navigation and geocaching, and forest conservation. They also made it to the top of Tooth of Time at almost 10,000 feet. Along the way they earned the 50 Miler Award, the Paul Bunyan Award and completed many requirements for Camping, Hiking and Backpacking merit badges while making memories that will last forever. We plan on going back in 2023.

Camp Cherry Valley

The Troop had a great time on Catalina Island at Camp Cherry Valley, where they hiked, kayaked, sailed and so much more.
